Most babies are in a head-down position in the mother’s uterus.  Sometimes the part of the baby that is down is the bottom or feet.  This is called a breech birth or breech baby.  Many babies are breech early in the pregnancy, but turn to the head-first position before the end of the pregnancy.  Sometimes babies that are born early are likely to be breech.  As you get closer to your due date, your doctor will be able to tell, either by ultrasound, physical exam or in some cases both, if your baby is breech.
